It’s that Simple

Thank you for visiting “It’s That Simple” with Paul & Kiesel. This is just one article as part of a series I have developed to answer contractors’ questions about products and installation methods.

Why use a self-leveler before tiling?

Self-levelers for tile setters are a cement based, quick drying liquid that is designed to use gravity and the physics of hydrodynamics to level a floor prior to setting tile.

There are many of these products available on the market and some do a better job than others to level the floor.
So why level the floor? Leveling a floor prior to setting tile not only fills in the low areas but it literally makes the floor level. This makes the tile setting process MUCH easier and MUCH quicker, thus saving a lot of labor and money. Many tile setters think they are saving time by building up areas with thin set as the tile is being installed but that takes a lot more time because you must add more thin set or pull tiles up to add more thin set where it is too low.
